Transitioning to a Unified Platform

Transitioning to a Unified Platform

Tradian is the Maldives’ National Single Window platform for trade, launched to bring together services provided by the various Cross-Border Regulatory Authorities (CBRAs).

It represents a significant step towards streamlining trade processes, enhancing efficiency, and enabling better integration with regional single window systems. By consolidating trade services under one digital umbrella, Tradian aims to make trade more accessible, transparent, and convenient for businesses and the public alike.

Since its launch, Tradian has allowed parallel submissions, meaning that service applications could be lodged either through the Tradian portal or via the systems operated by individual CBRAs.

While this flexibility was designed to ease the initial adoption, the ultimate goal has always been a full transition to a unified platform.

In this article, we will be looking at the announced transition to Tradian, what it is, why it matters, and how you or your business can prepare for this upcoming date.

What is the Transition to Tradian?

It is important to highlight that this transition date does not apply to registration on Tradian. You can continue to register on the platform even after 21st September 2025.

However, the key change is that the aforementioned service applications can only be processed through Tradian after the transition.

At present, the majority of active freight forwarders and shipping agents are registered on Tradian.

You risk facing difficulties accessing the services relevant to your day-to-day operations if you do not take action before the transition.

When is it?

From 21st September 2025 onwards, the CBRAs of the Maldives involved in Phase 1 of Tradian will no longer be supporting parallel submissions.

As such, the following services will only be available through Tradian:

  • Vessel Registration

  • Vessel Estimated Time of Arrival / Departure

  • Manifest Submission

  • Certain import and export related permits and licenses

This is a major milestone in the digitalisation of trade in the Maldives that marks the end of the parallel submission period.

After this transition, users will no longer be able to submit these applications through existing CBRA portals or alternative tools. All applications must be lodged through the Tradian platform.

Why Does It Matter?

The decision to implement a transition to Tradian is a significant part of the Maldives’ wider digitalisation journey.

By consolidating trade-related services exclusively through Tradian, the government is creating a more efficient and accessible system for all stakeholders.

The move allows for stronger connections with regional and international single window platforms, ensuring that Maldivian trade is well positioned in an increasingly digital global environment.

For businesses, the benefits are equally important. A single, unified platform simplifies operations and reduces the burden of navigating multiple portals and procedures.

Freight forwarders and shipping agents will be able to manage shipping and freight processes more efficiently, while delays caused by fragmented systems are expected to diminish.

The transition also encourages greater adoption of Tradian across the trade community, ensuring that all parties are working within the same streamlined framework.

Ultimately, this transition reflects a commitment to transparency, operational efficiency, and long-term growth for the Maldivian trade sector.

How Can I be Ready?

To ensure a smooth shift, freight forwarders, shipping agents, and other stakeholders are strongly encouraged to register on Tradian before the transition.

Registration is straightforward and can be completed online.

By registering in advance, you can familiarise yourselves with the platform, train your staff, and avoid disruptions to your operations once the parallel submission period ends.

The transition to Tradian is more than a procedural deadline; it is a landmark moment in the Maldives’ journey towards digital transformation in trade.

By committing to a single window system, the Maldives is setting a strong precedent for efficiency, transparency, and global connectivity.

For businesses, our message is simple: register early and be part of the future of trade facilitation in the Maldives.
