Tradenet Maldives Corporation Limited, in collaboration with the Maldives Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC), is undertaking a project to assess and document user needs for a potential Environmental Data Management System (EDMS).

The Environmental Specialist will provide expertise on environmental data types, collection processes, and storage requirements, ensuring that the scoping phase comprehensively captures the data needs of EPA and other stakeholders.

Terms of Employment:

The duration of the assignment is 1 (one) month from the commencement of work.

Remuneration:

Based on qualifications and experience.

Qualification and Experience:

Education:
  • Master’s degree in environmental science, Ecology, Environmental Data Management, or related field.

Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental data management, research, or environmental consulting.

  • Demonstrated experience with environmental data collection, GIS, data storage practices, and data quality standards.

Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of environmental data types, processes, and technical requirements.

  • Excellent analytical skills, with experience in data handling, analysis, and reporting.

  • Familiarity with data management systems, GIS tools, and related technologies.

Language:
  • Proficiency in English (written and spoken); knowledge of the local language is an asset.

Scope of Work:

The Environmental Specialist will be responsible for the following tasks:

Environmental Data Needs Assessment:
  • Identify and document key types of environmental data currently used by EPA and external stakeholders (EIA reports, biodiversity data, pollution records).

  • Assess and make recommendations for data collection and storage practices, emphasizing data integrity and accessibility.

Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Collaborate in designing interview and workshop materials that capture environmental data needs and processes.

  • Participate in stakeholder workshops and interviews, providing technical input to understand specific data handling requirements and challenges.

Technical Guidance on Data Management:
  • Advise on the best practices for managing environmental data, including data quality standards, data cleaning, and storage solutions.

  • Provide insights into data formats, GIS requirements, and any specialized tools or technologies needed to support environmental data workflows.

Review of Current Data Practices:
  • Analyze EPA’s current environmental data processes, identifying gaps, inefficiencies, or challenges in data collection, organization, and access.

  • Recommend improvements based on best practices for environmental data management.

Contributions to Final Report:
  • Provide detailed sections for the final report, covering environmental data requirements, technical needs, and recommendations for an EDMS.

  • Review and contribute to the maintenance plan for the proposed system, ensuring it is sustainable and meets EPA’s long-term goals.

Expected Deliverables:

Environmental Data Needs Analysis:
  • Comprehensive documentation of EPA’s data requirements, categorized by data types, formats, and accessibility needs.

Technical Recommendations:
  • Clear guidance on data collection, storage, and management best practices for environmental data.

Workshop and Interview Input:
  • Contributions to interview scripts and workshop activities, with a focus on gathering relevant environmental data insights.

Final Report Contributions:
  • Sections for the final report on data management recommendations, system requirements, and sustainable practices for environmental data.
