Food Establishment Registration Service Now Offered by MFDA

Food Establishment Registration Service Now Offered by MFDA

The Food Establishment Registration service on oneGov is now offered by the Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA).

This service was previously managed by the Health Protection Agency (HPA). However, as of 2nd September 2024, the MFDA is the entity responsible for offering this service on oneGov.

This change has been put into effect in accordance with the Food Safety Act (Law No. 6/2024), which was enacted on 23rd August 2024.

Due to this change, the service on the oneGov platform experienced a temporary service interruption from 26th August to 29th August. Do note that no late fees were applied to any submissions during this period.

Food Establishment Registration is a service that allows you, as a food business, to register a food establishment. This service is necessary if you wish to legally operate the following types of food establishments:

  • Local tea shops (“Sai Hotaa”)

  • Cafes

  • Restaurants

  • Canteens

  • Coffee shops

  • Catering services

  • Pastry shops or takeaways (with kitchens)

  • Pastry shop or takeaway (without kitchen)

  • Bakeries

  • Kitchens

  • Short eats takeaways

  • Juice shops (takeaway drinks, coffee, tea, juice, etc)

  • Food packaging services (small businesses)

  • Food packaging services (middle sized businesses)

  • Street food vendors and carts

  • Temporary food establishments (Canteens at fairs or carnivals)

  • Butchers

  • Day care centres and food catering volunteers

We would like to thank the MFDA team for their consistent communication and collaboration during the service migration process. Their close collaborative efforts were instrumental in the successful migration of this service.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the HPA team for their continued support and collaboration during this migration process. We look forward to working with you to digitalise more services in the future.
