Newsroom

As we continue building a truly digital Maldives, oneGov has emerged as one of our key tools for transforming how government services are delivered.
This platform isn’t just about digitising paperwork. It’s also about changing the experience for both citizens and service providers.
With oneGov, we're removing long-standing barriers, making services easier to access, and ensuring no one is left behind, regardless of where they live.
Here’s a closer look at why we believe oneGov is the right fit for our nation.

Reach Across the Country
As an island nation, geography has always presented a challenge. Travelling to Malé or another service hub to apply for a licence or certificate can be time-consuming, expensive, and sometimes just not feasible.
That’s why remote access is at the heart of oneGov. The entire platform is designed to work from wherever you are, whether that’s in the capital or on a remote island.
oneGov gives citizens the power to apply for services at any time, from the comfort of their homes, without needing to take time off work or plan an entire trip just to stand in a queue.
It’s a simple shift, but one that can make a world of difference for the citizens of our nation.

Staying in the Know
Waiting in the dark about the status of our applications used to be a part of the process. After submitting our application, all we could do was wait or make repeated calls to try and get an update.
oneGov has taken great strides to change that. With live updates built into the system, users are now able to track their applications in real time. If something needs their attention, they are notified straight away.
This means users can act quickly, avoid unnecessary delays, and know exactly what’s going on with their service applications..
Guiding Every Step
Another common barrier to applying for government services has always been the lack of clear, accurate information on how to apply for these services.
We’ve worked hard to change that with oneGov. Each service on the platform comes with its own tailored step-by-step service guide. This guide outlines exactly what documents are needed for the service, who is eligible, how to apply, and what happens after you apply.
These guides are written to be easy to follow and have been approved by the government entities that provide these services.
Whether it’s your first time applying or you just need a quick refresher, the information is right there when you need it.

Comprehensive Support
Even with the best design, users sometimes run into issues. That’s why providing support is a core part of the oneGov experience.
We have published tutorials and how-to posts on our blog and on our social media channels. But when you need direct help, you can also reach out through oneGov Support, our dedicated omnichannel support service. It offers assistance through multiple channels, including calling in, chat, text messages, and in-person centres located across the country.
Between service guides, tutorials, and oneGov Support, help is never far away.
Built on Secure Foundations
We know that trust is everything when it comes to digital platforms. With oneGov, we have built-in strong protections for both users and government institutions.
Every user signs in through eFaas, our national digital identity platform, which ensures secure and verified access. eFaas is available to all citizens and expats, and it forms the backbone of digital identity in the Maldives.
Behind the scenes, oneGov was designed from day one with security and privacy in mind. From encrypted data handling to strict access controls, the platform aligns with international best practices to keep sensitive information safe.

There’s Still Work to Do
We’re proud of how far oneGov has come, but we also know there’s more to be done.
Right now, not all government services are fully available on the platform. We also recognise that the platform is currently available only in English, which can create challenges for many of our users who are more comfortable with Dhivehi.
These limitations exist because integrating dozens of government agencies into one secure and reliable platform takes time, a great deal of coordination, and support.
That said, we’re actively expanding the range of services and working on a Dhivehi version of the platform. Accessibility matters and we’re committed to making oneGov easier to use for everyone, no matter where they are or what language they prefer.

A Platform That Understands Us
What makes oneGov special is that it wasn’t just built for a generic digital future; it was built for our digital future.
From remote access to real-time updates, from clear service guides to strong support systems, every part of oneGov is shaped by the unique challenges we face as a nation of islands.
We're proud of how far we've come, and with oneGov, we’re confident that we’re on the right path to delivering faster, fairer, and more accessible services for everyone.
Let’s keep building this digital future… together.
